Signs Your Water Line May Need Replacing:

Sewer Backup

The most obvious symptom that you have a sewer backup is if you find raw sewage and/or greywater in your basement. Greywater is household waste water that was drained from showers, bathtubs, washing machines, and sinks. Sewer backups could appear as a puddle around the drain in a basement utility room or as spots in other places in the basement. Basement tub and sink drains may also experience backups.

Toilet Bowl Water Level

When sewer lines are clogged, there may be inconsistencies in the level the water in toilets. It is most apparent when the water level in your toilet is unusually high or low, or simply changes from day to day.

Sewer Gas Smell

A strong smell of sewer gas in or near your home is an indicator that there is a crack somewhere in your sewer line.

Causes of Sewer Line Backups

• Broken, cracked or collapsed pipe from frozen ground, shifting soil, settling, and other possible causes.
• Severe grease buildup or a trapped foreign object restricting flow.
• Corrosion of an old pipe that indeuced the sewer line to collapse or break.
• A "bellied" sewer pipe where a part of the pipe has sunk from ground or soil disturbances where a low spot get created in the line where waste and paper collect and cause reoccurring blockages.
• Leaky joints where the seals between parts of the sewer pipe have broken, permitting sewage and water to escape.
• An excessive quantity of roots in the sewer line that cannot be cleared using a cable machine.
